Miniature Paper Violet Kit

  • by

Hey there! Here are some tips for making my 1:12 scale miniature paper violet kit! For more general info about assembling miniature paper flowers, see my basics here.

My kits can be purchased here! Kits include a laser-cut sheet as shown below, some wire, and a square of foam or felt to help with shaping the petals.

Supplies

Supplies you will need in addition to your violet kit:

  1. Acrylic paints / paintbrush
  2. Pointy tweezers
  3. Mini stylus tools for shaping
  4. Wire cutters
  5. Clear-drying craft glue
  6. Flower pot/dirt/whatever you’re attaching them to!

Shaping

First, you will want to paint your sheet. Apply paint sparingly and carefully layer as needed. For basic painting tips, see here!

Next, you will punch the flowers out of the sheet and begin shaping them.

  1. Pic 1: Press into the center from the front.
  2. Pic 2: Press the petals from the back, as shown, to get that classic violet shape.

Stems

Bend the wire into tiny canes no more than 1/2″ tall. Do varying heights to make it look more natural! Snip the ends with wire cutters. Make sure to save some wire for the leaves!

Tip: It’s easier to shape it if you bend first, then trim. Otherwise, you’re trying to bend a teeny little thing!

Glue

  1. Pic 1: Put a decent-size dot of glue onto the tip of your wire cane, and stick it to your flower. Make sure the large center petal is facing down.
  2. Pic 2: It’s okay if the glue is a little blobby – you can paint it purple so it becomes the back of the flower!
  3. Pic 3: Break some flowers while shaping? Turn them into buds by folding them up and putting some glue inside to hold it together! Dab some green paint on the stem and and voila! No waste.

Leaves

  1. Pic 1: To shape the leaves, draw a line down the center, and press into the rounded lobes with a stylus to get a nice upward curl.
  2. Pic 2: Bend these wires at a right angle and glue down the center of the leaf.

Assemble

Arrange your violets into your container of choosing, and viola (haha)!
