Hello, mini friends! This cradle is another cute little piece I found at an estate sale. I figured I would do it up all fancy, because it was pretty plain on its own. ๐ This particular piece turned out to be made of plastic, but had a great wood-like finish (fooled me)! It reminds me of some of the Chrysnbon-brand things I’ve seen, but I couldn’t locate this particular cradle anywhere. Hmm. Anyway, my inspiration for this piece was the magical world of witches and wizards! I wanted to do something with moons, stars, and rich/dark colours.
Process
This was a simpler little project that mostly involved a few paints, glue, and a couple of fabrics (and glitter.. eerrrggh haha). I used a soft navy-blue velvet for the blanket, and lined it with a smooth gold satin. Something about dark blue and gold just screams “magic!” doesn’t it?
The completed blanket was lined with a 22 gauge wire so it would maintain its shape, draping over the side of the cradle. In hindsight, it probably would have been easier if I had put the wire in before gluing, but I didn’t think of that at the time. Haha. Luckily, I only put some dots of glue around the inner part of the blanket, which created a tube around the edges for me to slide the wire in easily!
Other Notes
I think I forgot to show in the video, but the gold paint I used is one of my faves – Plaid brand “liquid leaf.” I highly recommend it, because it gives one of the best, richest gold colours I have seen so far! It is oil-based though, so sometimes the uses are limited (it tends to spread a red oil around the edges on porous surfaces, so you will need to prime first). Maybe later I will do a post with gold paint comparisons, because I’ve tried so many! Loves me some shiny gold.
This piece was listed for sale, but sold almost immediately! I am so happy that it found a loving home. <3 Feel free to check out my other handmade pieces and vintage miniatures on my Etsy. ๐
